Your SMART TV and SMART PHONE are constantly collecting data on you and report it back to whom? WHY ?

Well, it's not Trump, that's for sure (if something says "smart", he avoids it completely).

I know. He is easily played with massive compliments. pamdering and being surrounded by toadies. He is easily intimated whenever "smart" shows up so he makes it a point to surround himself with dumb dumbs even dumber than him. Does it bother you though Shuhak? I know for years when you go to different internet sites to research things they put "cookies" on you and track your interests.  Once on the internet you really have no privacy. But that's the internet. Your phone conversations are also at risk? Don't we have an expectation of privacy? And what we watch on TV? I mean we don't watch anything we'd be embarrassed to have others learn about but still whose business is it? I guess Big Brother is everywhere. Thank you for your reply and Happy Friday! :)

Everything comes with a price, and the price of conscience is privacy.  When we surrendered our lives to technological convenience, we surrendered our privacy as well.  Strangely enough, many people don't really seem to care about privacy.  Oh, they may gripe a bit when someone steals their identity or money, yet they still post personal info everywhere.  I can't count the number of people who post their exact whereabouts, what they're doing, and where and when they're going on vacation (“and in case you forgot, the combination to our safe is 34-5-43-2”).

I personally don’t mind if someone knows what I watch on TV.  I’m not watching anything I’d be ashamed of if others knew.  I don’t care if someone knows that I flip channels during ALL commercials.  In fact, I hope they DO notice that I refuse to watch certain programs and perhaps stop making them (such as anything to do with Kardashians).

My phone calls consist of listening to elevator music for over 45 minutes as I’m on hold waiting to argue with a “representative” who can’t speak English.  Why eavesdrop on me when they can simply call a medical insurance company and enjoy the fun for themselves (“Your call is important to us.  Pease stay on the line until our only representative finishes playing Candy Crush on their phone.  Your estimates wait time is – until hell freezes over”).

Hahahahahahahahahaha! Oh my gosh Shuhak. I was in a rather somber mood and have already asked a buncha questions reflecting that. You know like "was it a good thing for 7 Republicans to go to Russia and toady up to Russians in advance of the "summit" between Putin/Tramp?" Then I got here to you and boy am I glad! I needed a laugh and I just got a bunch of 'em! I don't do anything online vis a vis finance or buying things. If folks can hack into the Pentagon they can hack into anything  including my bank account. Not that it's that big. Where I go online is innocent so I don't mind that really. I have nothing to hide. But phone conversations? That creeps me out. Who wants big brother listening in when you talk to your best friend or your spouse or one of your children? None of their dam* business! When you are being targeted it is never for an honorable reason. It is always going to be to do you in in one way or another. Trick you or con you or scam you or use what you say against you. Jim has a smart phone. We have a smart tv. I never use the phone. I'm a landline gal. I LOVE the size of our TV screen but I don't need it to be "smart". I guess I have mixed feelings. I truly believe that if you have nothing hide you hide nothing. On the other hand I  like to control what info I share with what people. I had my identity stolen years ago and it was AWFUL! I would not wish that on anyone. it screws up your credit until you get it unraveled with the credit bureaus. I carried the police report with me for years just in case there was some remaining problem in my credit history. Google any name and that person's location will come up. A bit of history. The age. So no one can escape that net. I guess we just hope for the best. Hope things will work out. Keep our nose to the grindstone, shoulder to the wheel and keep moving forward. Did I miss anything? Thank you for your reply and Happy Saturday. Oh. Yesterday it was 115! Hope where you live it was pleasant! :)

I only have a landline phone.  I dont need and can't afford a smartphone.  Unfortunately, a lot of jobs these days require you to have one.  I have a smart TV too.  It loses the signal an awful lot, so maybe it's not as smart as it leads me to believe.
    Sorry to hear that.
WOW!  That's hot!!!  It only reached 86 here yesterday.

Our smart TV loses its signal a lot too. Maybe its endemic in the breed. We may have discussed this before. I have an old desk-top computer. I dislike the tablets immensely. Jim's older son got him the smart phone so he'd have a means of calling for help if needed plus I have a way to contact him when I'm home and he's out. I like that part. I don't like anything else about them. SIGH. I'm so behind that curve it ain't funny McGee. Some folks are always on top of everything new and are first in line to get the upgrades. Not me. I whined like a puppy when they took away XL. I loved it.  I have Windows 7 and I hope they don't take that away from me. Why repair what ain't broke? I know. You upgrade to get people to buy more stuff. SIGH. If they only wouldn't maybe life wouldn't be careening so fast down the path to where? Thank you for your reply.Oh the lowest it got this morning was 81. It is now 86 at 7:31am and the projected high today is 107. Jim and his friend met at the golf course at 7:15 am. I don't know how long they'll last! Thankfully our landlord installed a new air conditioner last year. The one that was here was over 25 years old and kept breaking down. So this year we haven't had a failure yet. Thank goodness! Thank you for your reply  Shuhak. I like simple things. Complicated thoughts. Unicorns. Watermelon. Ice. In summer a cup of crushed ice and some watermelon and I'm in heaven!  :) This post was edited by RosieG at July 7, 2018 8:36 AM MDT

I was angry when Windows XP went away.  It forced me to have to buy a whole new computer (Grrr!!!).  I've since gotten used to Win 7.  The bad news is that Microsoft will end support for Windows 7 on January 14, 2020.  (Main support on Windows 10 will end on October 13, 2020 but extended support will last until 2025).  This means we're all going to have to buy the new OS or our computers will be vulnerable.

That sounds miserable. Makes the low of 60 we had here sound cold.  I have no AC here.  According to every company I've had out here it'd be excessively difficult to impossible to install one - even a window mount.  I let in as much cool air as I can in the early mornings then close the house up for teh rest of the day.  If the cat "melts" I'll turn on the ceiling fan over him (he's such a drama queen).
