A day that will live in infamy. December 7, 1941. Attack on Pearl Harbor. Another infamous day? July 6, 2018. WHY you ask?

It is the day King don attacked America with tariff trade wars. Guaranteed to hurt Americans. Cost them jobs. Make things cost more. All downside. No up. Infamy becomes him. He wears it proudly.

For some odd reason, I don't place tariffs on the same level as a sneak attack by enemy military forces.

It doesn't have to be equal at all Walt. It just has to be infamous. What will the repercussions be of a long-lasting tariffy trade war? Who will be hurt the most? Just wonderin'.  Thank you for your reply and Happy Friday. If people lose jobs and can't feed their families how do they stay afloat/alive? If they can't pay their mortgages and have no medical insurance what happens when a serious illness hits? Jobs are essential aren't they? Anyway I guess we'll find out if it's just another horrendous error that King don walks back from all the flak he is gonna get or if he will double down and tariff everyone massively so no one does business with us anymore. "We'll see what happens". This post was edited by RosieG at July 6, 2018 9:14 AM MDT

MAYBE it will be placed on the same level as other federal decisions that affected the economy greatly in their day ... but even so, few people remember those other than those who lived through them.  (other than to accept it as a normal part of life)

I mean, the decision to apply the Social Security tax to everyone - not just the rich (as originally promised).
Or the decision to tax barter items and require people to pay actual cash.

On the other hand, tariffs are easily turned off.  Or Congress could actually pass the legislation to limit the President's power to unilaterally impose tariffs.

THIS spineless Congress do anything to limit the President's power? Surely you jest m'dear! Thank you for your thoughtful reply. I just wonder if the tariff trade wars continue a long time how many American families will be adversely affected? :) This post was edited by RosieG at July 6, 2018 9:52 AM MDT

    It may happen.

The legislation was actually introduced by Republicans.

As the saying goes: Politics makes strange bedfellows.

Happy Birthday Jane. You are a Moon Child as is my beloved brother-in-law. I am a Scorpio so as water signs we have always clicked. You and I never did. My best friends have been water sign folks...Pisces, Moon Children (aka Cancer) and Scorpios. But there are always exceptions. Anyway Happy Birthday to you and many more of them. My brother-in-law's birthday is July 12. A former fiancee of my son's was born on July 4. I adored her dearly. I will always love her. Go figger!  :)
