Do bees have knees?

  • Not exactly. They don't have joints that are anatomically like ours because we have endoskeletons and they have exoskeletons. The connections are structurally different.

Bees have six sections to their legs: the coxa, trochanter, femur, tibia, metatarsus and tarsus. Each is connected by a joint. The one that looks to us most like a knee is between the femur and tibia.

I wondered about that all my life, and finally found the explanation:

    "be all and end all"

    "b's and e's"

    "bee's knees"

I'm still waiting for an explanation of "23 skidoo".
