Two groups of traitors. One group willing and knowledgeable. The other group obtusely stupid dumb and oblivious. Same/different pumishment?

The endgame is the same.  The desired outcome is the same. The damage done is the same. One set knew precisely what it was doing. The other was totally brain-dead mindless robotic followers. Does it matter? Ignorant/knowledgeable what's the diff if the end is the same?
