There should be a "<" at the bottom right-hand corner of your screen.  Click to open or close chat.  I dont know of any way to permanently disable chat.

I click on the word "chat" and it disappears TEMPORARILY and then it comes back repeatedly incessantly dramatically erratically and is driving me NUTS. If I wanted to chat I would seek it out. It is more annoying and aggravating than those dumb-a** ads that keep popping up. I do have murder in mind. HOW do you murder an internet programming "device"? I'm gonna ask. Thank you for the attempt to help Shuhak. I appreciate it. I see no such sign as you have indicated. I shall keep looking. Meanwhile I am at war with it! :( This post was edited by RosieG at July 17, 2018 8:38 AM MDT

I use a desktop computer.  If you use something else it may be different.  Did you try settings?

Ads?  The only ad I've ever saw on this site was the one for "3000 free goodies".  I installed 'AdBlock Plus' (a free chrome add-on) and no longer see ads on ANY site.   I highly recommend it for a computer.

I have a desktop computer. Is this chat room thingy new? It never used to keep showing up every minute the way it does now? I don't care if other people want to chat with one another. I don't and I don't to have my screen automatically taken over a list lf the current chatters. I don't care whom they are. I don't need to keep track of their activities on Answermug. You don't have that problem then? How would my setting have anything to do with whatever Just Asking has set up? I'm quite ignorant about stuff like that Shuhak. I appreciate your hanging. AARRGGHH! No, its always been there.  I used to get exactly what you're describing, then suddenly it was gone with only a "<" symbol left.

    try this -

    - click on the wheel located on the far right side of the the word "chat". (If needed, click on the word "chat" to maximize chat box)
    - Click on each option to remove all check marks. (NOTE: Clicking on an option that has no check mark will enable that option).
    - Click on the chat bar to minimize the chat bar (if necessary).

It should now give you a ">" symbol on the far right side.  CLick the ">" symbol to hide chat bar  (A "<" symbol will then appear).

    Worth a shot.
