Generally speaking, do you think it's the wrong people that sometimes teach us the right lessons

In life you get the tests first and the lessons afterward.

I can only speak for myself, but some of the most profound life lessons I've ever learned were taught to me by people who did NOT have my best interests at heart--i.e., who were the 'wrong' people.
