German Lutheran Pastor Martin Niemoller wrote a very famous poem with which you may be familiar. When will they come for you?

First they came for the Communists and I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Trade Unionists and I did not speak out
Because I was not a Trade Unionist
Then they came for the Jews and I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak for me

    One of the reasons many of us voted for President Trump was to prevent the organization of a totalitarian state where we would be all so beholden to and controlled by the government that they could if they wished come for us.  Niemoller was killed by the Germans and that lesson is not lost on us.
