It's about as sound as Trickle down economics. 12 billion dollars seems like a lot but in the long run farmers will still be hurting from Trumps tariffs as well as auto workers and many other trades. Cheers!.
Here's what I don't get Nanoose. I thought the purpose of tariffs was to SAVE money..eventually. I'm not exactly sure how it is all supposed to work but that was what I gathered. So how is spending $12 Billion saving anything but the butts of the farmers TGITWH is hurting by his Tariffs? it seems to me to be a shell game. Thank you for your reply Nanoose! :)
And just where is this so-called "$12 billion" going to come from? Just say "abracadabra" and it suddenly appears? Will they walk out to the money-tree farm and pick a few bushels? No, it has to come from taxes. But who's going to pay those taxes? Surely not large corporations as they've been given huge permanent tax cuts (even though they keep a vast portion of their money overseas). Will it be the money bags who run the government? How about mr trump? Nope. It's going to come from Joe and Jennifer Taxpayer. You know them, they're the ones who lost (or are losing) their jobs thanks to this trade war. They're ones who are struggling to pay their rent/mortgage and healthcare for their family (food's a luxury). They're the ones forced to work multiple (low-paying) jobs just to make ends meet - and those jobs aren't in coal ("clean, clean coal").
But wait... if they loan the money to the farmers, them they'll have to pay taxes on that money which in turn will create more tax revenue for the government. Shoot, that $12 billion will pay for itself in no time. In fact, if they keep refunneling that tax revenue back to others who need aid, they'll actually come out ahead in a just few short years. Wow! They've just discovered the best money making device since the perpetual motion machine! I can just picture the smug look on trump's face when he realizes how great he is.
Honestly Shuhak I don't understand how tariffs are supposed to make things better for America but I did think the purpose was to save money wasn't it? Equalize things? So when TGITWH who is the cause of the problem offers to bail out the victims by flinging $12 billion at them I get very confused? How is bailing them out not going to adversely affect us? A shell game? What the he** is going on? Do you have a clue? So to follow through on this path forward the tariffs will continue or increase and the American victims of those tariffs will get bailed out repeatedly. And so on and so forth. How does that make sense? Isn't it simpler to stop tariffing and go back to the way it was? I dunno. I'm not conversant with how it's supposed to work but from where I sit it is all getting MORE SCREWED UP because of TGITWH. SIGH. What next? What other brilliant plan is at hand that will be implemented that will end up working against us? Any ideas? Thank you for your thoughtful reply. Aren't there finance folks in gubment that are supposed to anticipate problems and head them off at the pass? Inquiring minds wanna know these things!
