For a moment, I was. Skinhead culture is anti-racist to begin with. Original UK skinheads were the working class folks who emerged out of their dislike for the hippie movement. They were proud to work and welcomed migrant minorities among them. It was actually the Jamaican migrants bringing reggae music into the scene that resulted in a branch of music called ska. Some folks bastardized the culture and that's when it became associated with racism, but it's roots are not and, particularly in my region, skinheads are a diverse group who don't tolorate racism.
So, when I read your description, I envisioned some guy crossing the globe and spreading unity through ska and stuff.
I was disappointed to see he was a former KKK member. Meh. That ruined it for me.
So skinheads are the antithesis of racists then? I did not know that. Thank you for your reply and the informative. I will file that away and remember what you said. Happy Monday.
To clarify, some, not all. The original skinheads were not racist at all and many are still that way today. Some skinheads are racist. Because of that, I wouldn't use the term "skinhead" to denote a racist.
Thank you for the clarification JA. So Skinheads are not all in agreement. I think that's extremely odd but of course I am an outsider. Anti-Semites are all alike. They all hate Jews. Racists are all alike. They hate all those who are not white. Bigots are all alike. They hate all the folks who are LGBTQ. But you are telling me that skinheads are not all alike. I have no reason to disbelieve you. It's just very odd to me that they all carry the same banner and wear the same label but they do not share the same beliefs. Happy Tuesday!
