Presumption of innocence. After a long time, the trail goes cold, evidence is scanty and guilt is fiendishly hard to prove.

So time is a "get out of jail free" card? After X length of time the perp/crook/criminal is off the hook? I think murder is the only crime for which there is no statute of limitations.  Am I correct or in? The ruined lives of the sexually abused is murder though isn't it? Murder of innocence, spirit, comfort, trust? Thank you for your reply Sbf!  :)

But how to prove it? Rape is the favourite accusation of the disgruntled female years later. Why hide it until proof is impossible? This post was edited by Slartibartfast at August 22, 2018 7:22 PM MDT

  • Why are we even having this discussion? You're living in the good ole USA, land of Sanctuary cities, where people aren't interested in prosecuting crimes in the here and now, much less from years gone by. Protecting criminals is our game and we play it well. With the exception of violent felonies, the idea was that cold crimes of material loss shouldn't clutter and slow down an already over burdened courts.
