Any science folks out there know what "STEVE" is? It is a purple ribbon of light that appears over British Columbia, Canada. Theories?

Per an article in the August 20  journal GEOPHYSICAL RESEARCH LETTERS it is currently an unknown. It is NOT an aurora according to them. So what then is it?

There is a Navy test range in Nanoose bay and rumor has it that there is a UFO there that they test late late at night - maybe that UFO leaves a type of trail. Cheers!

Ever seen it Nanoose? Maybe televised?   I like scientific mysteries. I know there is always a reason for everything. At least I think there is. I'm gonna ask. Thank you for your reply and Happy Thursday! Nanoose Bay? I'm gonna Google it! :) I just came back from a quick tour of Nanoose Bay! It is spectacularly nifty! I've never seen it but I know a few people who swear they have. It's at the Nanoose Bay Maritime Test Range which is a Canadian Navy base but a portion of it is rented out to the American Navy. The UFO is supposed to be one that crashed about 20 years ago and they have been working on repairing it. Cheers!

Thanks Nanoose. You're the only person I know who is geographically close to it. A UFO supposedly crashed there 20 years ago? Gadzooks! Well we have an AREA 51 that's somewhere in the Nevada desert out of reach and inaccessible to us. It's said that's where they've kept aliens after they crashed. Very spooky! :)

Well UFO or not the Navy base holds a special place in my heart because  Canada once used it to pressure the United States to sign a offshore fishing agreement. Canada said that they wouldn't renew the US Navy's lease at the Nanoose  test range if they didn't sign the agreement and the US bucked and signed the papers. Cheers!

STEVE (Strong Thermal Emission Velocity Enhancement) is an atmospheric ribbon of light (similar to an aurora but it is not an aurora).

Thanks Shuhak. The article I read said that it was an anomaly AND a mystery. There is always a reason for everything, right? Ya just gotta find it! Happy Thursday! :)
