I personally cannot believe that anyone who blindly follows orders would make a good soldier... I think that while it's expected that a soldier follows orders, questioning if something seems wrong or out of place seems sensible and could save lives.. people make  mistakes, leaders are fallible.

All I know Addb is I would fail miserably as a soldier. Day 1 I'd be kicked out . I question everyone for everything all the time. I don't care whom it is if I have a question I ask it. Some folks get very testy when you question them. Very testy. Ever questioned your doctor? I did that once upon a time for a brand new doctor and she dropped me. No kidding. I was persona non grate because I DARED to question her on a hearing loss and how to treat it. Her refusal to treat me caused me to go to the best place in the world for hearing loss. The HOUSE Institute in Los Angeles. After I had the surgery there and could hear again I sent her a THANK YOU note for dropping me. I never heard back. True story! She was an arrogant pompous a**! I dodged a bullet! Thank you for your reply!  :)

There ya go! If their beliefs can't take being questioned something is very wrong somewhere. Thank you for your reply Addb and Happy Sunday to thee! :)

Political alliance makes no difference in whether a soldier is good or bad. Their actions, discipline, abilities, and working as a unit with others makes a soldier. You must be obedient to last in the military. Plain and simple. If you cannot follow orders and lack respect for authority you won’t make a good soldier.

I love how you pretend only democrats question authority and republicans blindly follow authority. I’m tired of people acting like their party of choice does no wrong and their opposition is the devil. This blind political bias is a major issue in this country on both sides.

  • Politics aside, there's no place in successful military operations for the non conformist, the lone wolf, or the rebel. Before we used the military as a laboratory for social engineering, the discipline and training was aimed at individuals learning to work for the good of the group and the mission at hand. Human lives depended on how well you paid attention and how well you carried out instructions. There are moments when you don't have the luxury of having a committee examine the move and make recommendations over lunch. There's no time to "soul search" over how any individual feels about it. I was never in a war zone in my USAF career, but those of us in Air Medical Evacuation had some critical moments when teamwork made the difference. Now, I never cared about who was at my side, Democrat or Republican, as long as the job was done. We always kept our opinions about the commander in chief to ourselves and when those in command did their job, we didn't have to worry about "challenging authority".
