Discussion»Statements»Rosie's Corner» Some say the Novembe 2018 mid-term election will be the most important election in American History. Do you agree or is that just hyperbole?
ALL elections are important. They give "We the People" the chance to take part in and change our government (theoretically). Unfortunately, few people bother voting (their excuses are endless). Yet these same non-voters sure complain loudly when the government doesn't do what they think it should. While many see the Nov. midterm elections as a way to "get back at trump", this election will have longer lasting effects. Nationwide, 35 senators are on the ballot - and they serve for 6 years. Unfortunately, many votes fail to take this into consideration when they vote. many vote party - not individual. They get a ballot, vote party and are satisfied. Few people actually take the time to research candidates before they vote for them. Just because a person is affiliated with a certain arty does NOT mean they are the best candidate for the job. ALL elections are "the most important election in American history" as ALL elections shape our government - local to national. Sure, the smaller ones may "seem" unimportant, but elections are like building a house. Each person elected (form school boards to US president) make up a piece of that building (in what they do on their job). If any one piece is "rotten" it affects the rest of the structure (many times long after that person has left the job). Too much accumulating rot and eventually the building will collapse.
Thank you for your thoughtful reply Shuhak and Happy Monday. I disagree with thee. The reason this election is critical is that UNLESS THE DEMS get back in the majority ASAP there will be no action on the part of Congress to do anything. If DEMS win enough seats to take over then Congress will IMMEDIATELY BEGIN IMPEACHMENT proceedings. Otherwise we're stuck in the same muck until 2020 and then what with all the rigged elections and foreign interference and traitors and the treasonous things donjohn gets away with we will be stuck with him until 2024 at the very least and maybe he will bully Congress into changing the Constitution and he will be prez until he dies. He will also make sure that his kids will take over the reign of trump. It will be trumpica to infinity and beyond. You think I may be stretching it a bit? I dunno. The jacka** has broken so many laws and run over so many traditions and protocols and been such a force for evil I think he is capable of strongarming the scairdy cats in D.C. into doing anything he orders them to do. Why they fear him so I don't know. He is an old fat ignorant and physically lazy liar who speaks gibberish 24/7. His supporters are something else to be determined later or maybe never. I agree that those who don't vote should shut up and stay shut up. They have no right to complain about anything if they are too lazy to spend some time researching candidates and voting. You can vote by mail in California and other states too so it doesn't have to inconvenience you. But you must put in the time performing due diligence so you know the kind of person you are voting for. The internet is a fabulous tool for that. Anyway you had your say which I appreciate it and I 've had mine. All I can say is "we'll see what happens". Fingers crossed!
You are correct. The only thing I have a problem with is - will the dems actually do it. Our government officials haven't got the best track record for doing the "right thing" (if anything at all) - regardless of their party affiliation.
TOUCHE m'dear! Touche. I don't know. Frankly m'dear both political parties suck bigly and need to be drastically overhauled. It's just that the one in power now is more EVIL to me so I harp on it. But the DEMS don't have a whole lot to take pride in lately or brag about. SIGH. Thank you for your reply! :)
All elections are just elections - you vote for who you want and then put up with or try to get around whoever gets in. That is all they are and no more. Democracy is not about electing but about how we treat not just ourselves and our own but others as well.
It's not hype. This nation is in the worst condition ever. The last time we had this much insanity and foolishness afoot, there were armies in the fields of Antietam and Gettysburg. I don't think it can be over played or over stated. It's hard to tell which group is more dangerous, the non voters or those who vote with a ballot in one hand and a blindfold in the other. The American electorate is an infant playing with a loaded revolver.
