How long does it take to reverse momentum? I know the faster you're speeding the longer it takes to stop. But?

Must you come to a complete stop BEFORE you can put it in reverse and start moving backwards? I know some law of physics will surely cover that. If you are going 100 mph forward how long does it take for you be to be traveling 100 mph backwards and is a complete stop in there somewhere?

Hit a golf ball at a steel wall at 100 mph. When it hits it will very briefly (milliseconds) stop while deforming, then reverse direction at just slightly under 100mph. I cannot find a video.

And if you haven't got a golf ball, what then ? Man of Science....Lets see how you rebound to this brain teaser...:)D

It was an example only. A steel ball would work better as is more resilient than a golf ball.

How about a rubber ball...is it ok to bounce that one off you ?   :) D This post was edited by Nice Jugs at September 7, 2018 3:13 PM MDT

It depends on the type of rubber. Here is an article containing information about the coefficient of restitution of materials, which is all about bouncing. The math is simple and I know you are quite intelligent.

I bounce I'm told ,but thats a would new science that man have been studying  for countless thousands of years  and are reluctant to publish their finding on account of thier obsession with the subject matter in hand.....
So for now in more then happy to assist in any way I can ,but in Theroy only I'm afraid :(D

I will start a research on the concept of jiggling. I'm sure I can create a coefficient of some kind with lots of experimentation. I would need two willing subjects to assist.
