Would YOU vote for a candidate if you didn't know what positions/views he or she held? How can the Senate confirm a Justice who is a cipher?

Not the same thing. A judge is not supposed to have a predetermined position on issues. They are supposed to listen to the attorney and apply an judgement based on the written law not what they wan the law to say. 
No litmus test supposed to be applied to a justice.
