If you observe theft and say nothing are you not an accomplice to the crime?

Want an example? You're in a store and witness someone putting something into a purse or bag with the obvious intention of walking out with it and not paying for it. Stealing. Do you just watch it happen or do you tell a clerk and point the person out? Why?

      Nope. That's not the legal definition of an accomplice.

    Of course not.  That would be like blaming "society" for someone's crime.  I would mention it not because I would or might be implicated but because it is wrong - crime against property.
