heartless! big pharma doesn't give a poop about American citizens. it's all about the dollar.. and they have lawyers in their pockets and economists working over-time to extract the maximum amount of blood possible. if sin were a thing, this would be it's face... and if the devil existed, his title would include the acronym CEO.

about this drug in particular: there should be no freakin' patent on it. it's adrenaline. and before i ditched my television, their commercial came on 20 times a day. they're probably trying to recover those costs. a**h*les! first they bombard you with fear, then they rape your pocketbook. same with the cancer-screening business, though that wouldn't be apparent to the small percentage of people who are found to have cancer.

btw, this is usually a sign that the patent on the device will be up soon, and the company that held the monopoly will have to share profits with other companies/generics. they are milking a nearly dry teat... hard. freakin' buttholes.

That is a disgusting mark up in just a few years.  I figure they should be getting some competition soon.  Sounds like their patent is not exclusive the article says their competition when out of business.

The phrasing of your question is interesting though.  "Make America Great Again...." how does Trump tie into this?  All of these increases came in under Obama and/or Obamacare.

I could just as easily ask the same question with "Was this the kind of Change you Hoped for...."   Why put the spin in there? 

if their patent is not exclusive, yet their competition went out of business, jacking the price like that could have the same affect for them, as this would be the best time to launch a more reasonably priced product. no one would pay four and five times as much for something just as good. the patent was probably on the device and not the drug within it. maybe they just lost the patent and are squeezing the stone before another company can get one on the market.

Nice try in attempting to tie this to Trump.  

The truth is that the maker of the Epi Pen decided to make it their cash cow.  It is now 55% of their revenue.  There is no generic.  A company tried to get approval for a generic but your FDA disallowed it.  You have to understand that our leaders in the District get rich on big pharma and Monsanto.  Those will be protected to the death.  Haven't you ever wondered about how legislators go into Congress with a $175,000 salary and a few years later they are multi-millionaires?   

There are at least two competitors to the Epi Pen.  I don't know how much cheaper they are.  And don't think Epi Pens are just for children.  I would guess more elderly people use them, but don't know that for sure.  Why is there a problem anyway?   With Obamacare, everyone has been saved from  not having the healthcare they want.............right?

BTW..This has nothing to do with Obamacare. It's corporate America and Pharma at it's worst.  I know plenty of people (including myself) who are not elderly or children who require these because of an allergy to Bees and biting flies.

My guess is that if you got bitten by a horse fly, you had difficulty breathing and your throat a& face swelled, you'd think differently.  There is no defense for this price change.

It has everything to do with Obamacare....the regulations are forcing the insurance companies not to cover as much and people's deductables are too high.   What good does a insurance card do, if you never meet the deductible?  Most people do not know what their insurance paid for the meds, they know what they paid.  Also the gov has a law saying that the Dr cannot just check the box "generic substitutions allowed" because FDA does not consider them the same (Must be nice for a pharm and FDA to force Name Brand).  And yes there is a generic out there.  It is by Adrenalclick.  But you have to get the Dr to write a script specifially for it.

It's a fact. Trump's usage of that phrase is contradictory to what he represents and what will hapen.  You should weigh in on my question I posted, "When was America great?" I'd love to see your answer.

It has nothing to do with Obama care.  My insurance NEVER covered Epi Pens and I suspect most other insurances do not either.

It's pure greed and under a Trump presidency,  capatlism will run amok and minimal rules & regulations will make it much worse. 

I agree...Obamacare is terrible. That's why we need universal healthcare.  Human lives should not have an intrinsic value placed on them.   

Ok then what does Reagan have to do with it??? Again the increases all came under Obama and Obamcare. And I showed you were the gov has limited the market by not allowing the generics substitutions under the same script just like the vast majority of them are written.  How many people are going without because they cannot afford the name brand and are not even being told there is a generic available.  I was several articles in that were complaining about the price before one said that there is a generic that is a shame. The FDA should be ashamed basically creating and enforcing a monopoly on a life-saving drug.

I don't know about your particular ins plan but from what I been reading there are many that do...once you meet the deductible.  If I were you I would do some homework and get a plan that covers you prescription needs.   I have to do that yearly with my some family members when their plans change to make sure their scripts are still covered for no or very little co-pay.

That's funny...if an insurance company DOES have a deductible, I can almost guarantee it very high because this med is not considered preventative and not  "necessary".  Much like Chantrix which helps smokers quit.

Again, the cost of prescription med rising is not Obies doing.  It's the result of loosening of restrictions, allowing insurance companies to run rampant, and un-checked capitalism. The FDA is in the pockets of the Insurance and Health care indutry who want to ensure profits are high so CEO's can make rediculous salaries (Even when the company goes into bankruptcy ala Trump), afford those expensive cars, and have 3-4 homes.

A perfect example..

This guy, Martin Shkreli who raised the price of the drug Daraprim %5000, from $13.50 to $750 a pill after he bought the patent.  

That was not the fault of Obamacare and highlights what is happening now and what will get much, much worse in the future. Especially under a Trump reich

There are policies without a deductible.  But yes most (all under Obamacare) have a crazy deductible that really makes it pointless to have it. (I don't and will not.  I am not paying that kind of money and it not covering nothing and thankfully  I do not have to pay the fine in my state) 

Anyone using those words today (Make America Great Again) is referencing Trump maybe you can play it as referencing Republicans.  But again that ignores the fact that these increases came under Obama. And the case you we are talking about (Epi) is not deregulations but because of regulations by the FDA. 

We seem to agree that about the FDA. And even about CEO salaries....I think we probably disagree on how to fix it.
