Discussion»Statements»Rosie's Corner» Any Floridians live in the panhandle? Hurricane Michael at Cat 4 is heading straight for it. Are you in harm's way?
You betcha we are. We expect damage, power outages and flash flooding between now and Thursday night. Our property is wooded and I can only hope that when the trees topple, they miss the house. We're situated about 200 miles from the coast, northeast of landfall.
Good luck DA and I hope the reality is much less damaging than the potential. Thank you for your reply and Happy Wednesday. Fingers crossed here in California for all you Floridians.

My sister lives 80 miles from Panama City. Their house is 30 feet above sea level and safe from the surge, but the winds did a lot of damage. She told me earlier about the massive amount of debris. The small town of Carabelle is nearby and only a few feet above. She is going there when she can, but I suspect there won't be much left.
I am very sorry to hear that Ele. Of course yesterday was wall-to-wall coverage of the hurricane and it was unbelievably sad to see what violent weather can do. Huge trees were snapped or uprooted. It looked like the aftermath of a war. Trees that survived were stripped of all their leaves and branches had snapped were strewn everywhere. They said that was the biggest hurricane to ever hit the Florida panhandle and unlike most hurricanes that usually get smaller as they hit land this one kept getting larger and by the time it hit it was almost a Cat 5! I hope there were no injuries to anyone. I did hear that as of yesterday one woman died because a tree fell on her house and I guess crashed through the roof right where she was. I wonder how many more there will be futurely and how much bigger they will get? Thank you for your thoughtful reply. I will send my good thoughts to your sister. It's all I can do Ele.
