General Mattis sez "I've never registered for any political party". Does that mean he never voted or he was always an INDEPENDENT?

The super duper don sez he thinks Mattis is probably a Democrat. If he thinks THAT why in the he** did he bring him aboard the super don love boat?

I also have never registered with any party. We do not do that in my state. For primaries we just go in and tell the worker which party ballot we want.
If his state is not that way then he likely never voted in a primary or he could live in at state that allows Independents vote in either party's primary. It does not matter for a general election of course.

"Independent" is a political party in some states.

Btw, Rosie ... did you know that DNA contributes to your political predisposition?
I didn't, until I heard a story on NPR this morning.

So, think of this ... if *I* don't understand why I have a predisposition towards a political view ... how can I understand someone who has a genetic predisposition the other way?

DNA is the basis of who I am m'dear. I got it from my parents who were lifelong Democrats. My dad was a hard worker and so was my mom. We were less than middle class financially but we always had a home and food and clothes. I am a hard worker too. I see the world through eyes I inherited from my parents. I  believe in helping others who are in need of it . I  believe in sharing what I have. Money has NEVER BEEN MY CARROT. That gives me a great advantage over those whose only purpose is to make money in any way they can on the backs of others. I am happy as I am. Had I been born to an obscenely wealthy family I would have been like them assuming they went the way of obscenely wealthy folks who care naught for others. There are some who do care and I would hope I would have turned out like them but I don't know. I see what others do. I see their priorities. I see their dishonesty and support of a monstrous person whom I consider to be pure evil. I am my DNA. I own it. I am a product of it. I have no complaints. How can you escape your DNA anyway? Thank you for your reply Walt!  I know greedy when I see it. I know hateful when I hear it. I don't understand it nor do I care to. They are them and I is me and ever thus it shall be.   :) This post was edited by RosieG at October 16, 2018 11:17 AM MDT

Of course environment contributes 70% to your political view.
But it's interesting to think that your DNA could have given you a predisposition towards the other side.

If you think it through ... this may also mean people have a DNA predisposition towards crime.
What if we could detect that someone has a predisposition towards being a sociopath?
Should we test for it, if we could?  So that we have the chance to mold their environment to steer them away from that path?

I find it raises interesting questions.

It makes sense to me that everything begins in the womb Walt. I know nurture plays a role of course but your DNA limits what you think, what you can achieve, your talents, your disposition. Some kids early on show signs of extreme cruelty. They will pull the cat's tail or the wings off butterflies or their siblings' hair and generally enjoy inflicting pain. In extreme cases maybe they'll microwave an animal. These damaged kids are more likely to take that cruelty  and apply it to human beings and become murderers for instance. I think you mostly are what you will ever be at birth. If you are treated lovingly and with kindness you have a better chance of becoming the best you can be whereas if you are mistreated and abused it may well bring out the worst in you and that is the path you will follow. Abusive parents should never have kids. Of course they do and their children pay for it forever after. I know both evil and good exist in homo sapiens. Which will win out in the end? I think we are heading for doom on the path we're on now. You? Thank you for your thoughtful reply and Happy Wednesday. I think we should test for all kinds of defects and if we can fix them in utero or at birth we should. HOWEVER that means that the "fixers" must have noble intentions and what guarantee do we have of that? SIGH. It's complicated isn't it? This post was edited by RosieG at October 17, 2018 4:33 AM MDT

I think one of my favorites is something like:  "Be polite, but have a plan to kill everyone you meet."
