Discussion»Statements»Rosie's Corner» Florida voters restored voting rights to convicted felons. You up down or sideways with it? Should every state copycat Florida?
It is a start. The major change that still needs to be CHANGED is calling all people FELONS. There should be another category.
This makes everyone nervous. The POINT is they should have never been listed under the umbrella of FELON to begin with.
Smoking a joint should not cause someone to not be able to choose their leaders in the country they live in. Going to jail 3 times because you cannot pay a ticket, is NOT a FELONY-- unless you happen to be the victim of a judge who thinks it is. How do you fight an incorrect verdict if you are poor?
That is not a felony. It becomes a felony under improper verdicts in court due to poverty. Half the people who are felons would NOT be if they had a better lawyer which the Court did not appoint for them.
So, many FELONS are not crooks or serious criminals. Those FELONS are already IN the WHITE HOUSE. Those people are safe. FOR NOW. Not anymore.
We want to free the hardworking people, the salt of the earth. The ones who are REALLY deserving of Democracy, not the losers and mindless haters that TRUMP calls his base and the head bobblers and sycophants that get a paycheck from him.

I agree with Sharonna that there needs to be an overhaul of our justice system to make it a more even playing field and that not everyone in jail is truly a felon.
I do agree with Florida that if a person has served their prison sentence, has completed their parole with no additional offenses, their right to vote should be restored.
Thank you for your reply L. It just strikes me as very odd that a red state would pass something like that. Reds are law and order allegedly. Maybe they also smoke pot . I dunno. Politics gets curiouser and curiouser! :)
