When does school start where you live?

American kids take longer to indoctrinate. :-)
It started last week back home (K-12). Florida universities start tomorrow I think. Our kids headed back to school Friday.
Here, they start Sept. 1.
It'll be September 5th, that's the first Monday in September this year. Next Monday (August 29th) is a Bank Holiday in the UK. When was the August Bank Holiday in the USA? Was it the first Monday in August? It's always the last Monday in August in the UK. I'm guessing it must be earlier in the USA because it would seem a bit silly for schools to start just before it.
School started last March 14 and goes on for a year straight for me. That is all I know. No breaks either.
