You are so correct.  Cheating the government is never a good idea.   Did you know if you were ever homeless and received help, no matter how small, the government makes you promise to pay it back when you received it.  That means if you ever have a substantial amount of money in the bank they can come in and freeze your account before you even know the total amount owed.

I know someone who had their account frozen a couple of years ago who owed NOTHING.  The government takes and asked questions later.

  • It's just a cheerleader banner Rosie and is highly unlikely to happen.  Most arguments in favour of such a thing come from people who have very limited understanding of tax over and above their own payments.  And of course politicians who would like those people to vote for them.

As things stand it is and always has been an unworkable mirage.  States depend on the IRS for information used to levy their own taxes and penalties.  So remove the IRS and States will have to collect this information themselves.  I'm sure this will cost nothing at all in infrastructure and new agencies (with reduced power and reach) to replace that information.

There are a host of other problems one could raise, but where's the point?  It's a piece of political fantasy that is supported by those who believe that 'taxation is theft', which in itself is a very silly idea indeed.  So, just a cheerleader thing for the great unwashed to get excited about.

The only way to get rid of the IRS is to get rid of all taxes. As long as there are taxes, there will be someone trying to get out of them and we will still need someone to send our taxes to even if we are paying exactly what is supposed to be paid.

    The 12th of Never.

The only way that can be abolished is if we have new, improved, robot cops.
