Vlad the Impaler was a Transylvanian. Putin is Russian, and on the Ritz.

You're pulling my leg aren'tcha Sbf? Transylvania? Isn't that where vampires live? If it is a real place where is it near?  Russia is a big place. What language do they speak? I VANT YOUR BLOOD.  That just popped in my head. Aren't Transylvanians bloodsuckers? Come out at night because the light will kill them? Dr. Frankenstein was what? A Transylvanian? Transylvania was in a part of Rumania which was formerly part of Hungary. I just looked it up. How come it got such a bad rap? Thank you for the info m'dear and Happy American Thanksgiving Thursday! :)

Dr Victor Frankenstein was Swiss, the invention of British novelist Mary Shelley (wife of Romantic poet Percy Bysse Shelley).
Vlad the Impaler was Prince of Transylvania, a small principality in the far northern Balkans - now the eastern half of Romania,  long before it was annexed by the Holy Roman Empire (in fact, in a major case of the tail wagging the dog, Good King Wenceslaus was king of Poland and Hungary as well as his native Bohemia at the time). The gruesome ways in which Vlad disposed of his enemies gave rise to Bram Stoker's Dracula and many other tales of vampires, goblins, ghosties, lang-leggety beasties and things that go flop in the dark. He was a bad dude.
His Russian namesake is a former KGB senior agent and I think he'd love to be Tsar of all the Russias. Delusions of grandeur, Russia ain't the Soviet Union any more. Putin on the Ritz.

Vladimir is actually a pretty common name in that part of the world. Lenin was a Vlad too.

It is? You mean like Bob or John or Joe is here? Lenin was also a Vlad? Maybe VLADS are treasured in Russia. Which brings up a question Sbf. Thank you for your reply and here it comes!  :)
