    Personally?  Indifference.

    Unless I was being tortured.
    Then it would be revenge.

I'm trying real hard to get my brain around your reply Walt. Indifference to your situation, surroundings and unknown future? From time to time I go deep within myself to figure things out and I'm MIA to those around me. I  concentrate very well and that has been a very good thing to have at my disposal. I'm a retired Internal Auditor and you have to shut everything out and concentrate to do your job. BUT living in an unknown environment might send me over the edge. Why?  Because I am a creature who LOVES routine. I want to know what I can depend upon at all times as much as possible. I have been that way since I was a child. I didn't like surprises then and I don't like them now. So mentally emotionally and probably physically too I believe I would deteriorate rapidly. Of course I can't KNOW that with 100% certainty. Hope I never have to find out. Thank you for your reply! I am rarely indifferent to anything. I'm usually all in or all out. Different strokes!  :)

I'm not sure "indifference" is entirely the correct word.
Basically, I learned long ago not to stress out over things I can't change.
Of course, I'd be looking for a means of escape ... but I wouldn't be stressing over it.

How about STOIC? I get that way at times. It gets me through what might have otherwise been a trial tribulation torment. It is temporary of course but many things are temporary that save us from worse. You can usually get through temporary. It's permanent thats the real bit**! :( Thank you for your reply Walt! :)

Stoic: a person who can endure pain or hardship without showing their feelings or complaining.

    Nah.
I may not stress over things, but that doesn't mean I won't complain about them.

    LOL

I read or heard nothing about his life.  I don't know.

It would be an interesting story.

I know one thing, True Grit.
