Do the more intelligent among us seek complexity while the simple souls only ever accept easy peasy breezy? The easier it is the betterer?

Reminds me of a line by GK Chesterton in his book, Heretics---"The man in the insane asylum is there because he has tried to get the universe inside his head.  The poet is satisfied with merely getting his head inside the universe."

(To me, understanding is sometimes difficult; but truth tends to be simple and straightforward.)

I have heard of Cheseron tom but I have never read anything by him. I think that line is beautiful. Poets are treasures because they often lead us to insights that all the lectures in the world cannot deliver. I think the problem we have is that so many people care not about anything but that which affects them personally. The universe is much too big because it is all there is. They can't handle galaxies. They can't even comprehend one little planet much less what goes on thereon. So poets speak their truths and those who care enough to pay attention are comforted. Temporarily. But it's better than nothing. Thank you for your thoughtful reply and Happy Sunday! :)

Come on, Rosie. Life is not as black and white as many of your questions imply, and you should know that.

Come on, Stu.  Life is not as grey as some of your answers indicate---and you should know that.

Says the guy who often oversimplifies. It's a matter of opinion, and you should know that. And you think my answers show how gray life is. What a nice compliment. Thanks! This post was edited by Stu Spelling Bee at December 15, 2018 7:30 PM MST

Thanks for playing Stu, but no, I don't think your answer show much of anything about life---except of course what it isn't.

And first principles are by nature very simple.  Their value was demonstrated in The Silence of the Lambs.

Hope your back is OK---I fear you may have sprained it looking for the compliment you think you have found.

  • I was wondering why everything in my life was so complicated. Now I know.
