Epi-pens are used by those who have deadly allergies. My son is one of them. Walnuts and pecans. Others are affected by peanuts or egg whites. Unconscionable greed drives these people. They are despicable..
That does not make sense unless the input costs to the pen went way up or there is a monopoly on those pens.
And bees and wasps. They are incredibly despicable. Similar to HIV meds. They practically give them to other nations in Africa, which I find wonderful...but Americans must pay thousands of dollars. It is because of the health insurance business.
I have to keep 2 Epi-pens all the time.. because one doesn't work for me... I have a severe peanut allergy.
In the uk.. its just a prescription fee of just over £8 pound
Its disgusting they charge that much.. because they are essential... Anaphylactic shock kills and Epi-pens save so many peoples lives.. its not like people can do without them.
I think it's terrible !!!
It's a kind of extortion. I've always thought it immoral that so many doctor's get rich on the sick and dying. This is the worst kind of predatory capitalism. The only thing I can't decide is which is worse, this or slavery. What say you???? Coming soon: Pics from London.
The manufacturer's biggest competitor recently did a mass recall or something similar, and is sort of out of action for a bit. So this company is now mostly unopposed, and they're determined to make the most of this opportunity.
Almost right! :)
The UK is a mixed bag of prescription charges. People in England pay as you say, but people in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland do not.
I checked, but allergies do not seem to appear on the list of medical exemptions in England, so it looks like the standard charge. But if you're outside England but within the UK, it's free. :)
The Epi-pen raised cost is shades of Martin Shkreli doings..a while back he raised the price of a drug from $13.50 to $750 per tablet.
It's despicable (as you say), I'll add extraordinaire (despicable) birds of a feather.
Ah! Every little Tory Boy* likes to think they're going to be Martin Shkreli when they get big Rosie!
It warms the heart to think that, when they're grown up they too can make money for nothing by making the lives of the ill and the elderly more dangerous, more difficult and more expensive.
Aren't free markets lovely, kind, sharing places? And wouldn't it be horrible to have some sort of government control to make this kind of profiteering illegal? That would never do.
* A British expression. Named after a character created by comedian Harry Enfield, the details of which can be seen here:
