Do you have fourth place moment?

I've always looked for the guy that comes in fourth place. Especially when the difference between him and the gold medal is only a couple of hundredths of a second.
I'm sure the guy that comes in fourth place has practiced the same dedication an sacrifice as any of the three in front of him.

In my case, this brings to mind an instance when I really wanted to be a lifeguard. Two guys took off like dolphins into the water, then there was a tiny little girl in a braid, and then me.

Have you ever had an almost moment?

  • Lots.

    I'm always the runner up.

    Except five times.

  • Five times!
I think that makes you a lot more than a runner up.
Looking at the things, you've shared with me and showed me, runner up is not really the first thing that comes to mine.

  • The game,
That's a good way to look at it. Thanks Mr. B.

  • 5 times in 60 years doesn't amount to much.

In a few things I land in the top 20 - 5 %, in one thing I'm out there, in many things, especially physical ones, I don't rate at all - would never even get to the starting post. I'm ordinary and average, a low achiever, possibly fair bit lower than average by many measures. I get nervous around most kinds of competition and tend to back out, not participate. I prefer volunteering cooperation behind the scenes.
