It all depends on my mood.  When I'm depressed, I tend to crave salty, crunchy items.  I used to like sweet items when I was relaxing, but it seems the older I get, the less I crave sweets.

I avoid hard crunchy items along with excessively chewy items, as my teeth can no longer handle them (stupid teeth!)
I also avoid beets and zucchini. (gag!)  But I do like Brussels sprouts and broccoli (yep, I'm "one of those").  Oh, and I love onions!

Me too mostly Shuhak. When I was a kid I had an insatiable sweet tooth. It was so bad my mom had to lock up all the candy! Now and for many years if I have something sweet I have to eat something salty crunchy right after to get that sweet taste out of my mouth!  Ironic ain't it? Condolences on your teeth m'dear. The teeth aren't stupid. It's just that when we're younger we don't really pay a lot of attention to them and sometimes by the time we get around to it it's kinda too late to make them GREAT! I like beets and zucchini. We love Brussels sprouts and broccoli and kale and cauliflower and cabbage and and and and and. There really isn't any vegetable we dislike. Our diet consist mainly of veggies whole grains nuts seeds and lotsa beans and fruit. We aren't vegetarians but we could be. While Jim is apt to go for something sweet to munch on I'm a cruncher. I LOVE corn nuts. Now your teeth couldn't handle them. That's a pity! Thank you for your reply and Happy Monday to thy m'dear! :)

I probably should have said "stupid gums".  I've always tried to take care of my teeth (regular exams and cleanings)  Except for 3 wisdom teeth, all my teeth are still intact and healthy (a bit worn, but still healthy).  it's my gums that are the problem.  They made like a hairline and receded.

I used to love corn nuts.

  • I don't care for crunchy foods, and I don't care for brick-hard caramel, so I avoid all of that.  I also don't care for corn, peas, lima beans, uncooked fish (sushi), squid, turkey ( unless it's on a sandwich, in a salad, or ground in place of beef), milk, yogurt - all of the gross and disgusting food.

I've never tried squid lavender. Not brave enough. The veggies you mention are not my favorites. Jim LOVES turkey. I like it but I think he could eat it every day. We love yogurt. The Greek whole milk PLAIN kind. Being of Armenian ancestry I grew up eating it. My mom made it all the time. We call it MADZOON!  I don't eat uncooked food although once I did try a taste of Ahi tuna from a friend's plate and it was quite delicious. Also I've had flaked raw fish in a lime-type marinade and it is "cooked" kinda by the acidic lime juice so it doesn't taste raw or gross. I forget the name of the dish though. Are you sitting down? Here's something way gross that my mom used to make all the time for parties. RAW GROUND SIRLOIN. Not joking.  She'd spice it up with different things and used onion and whatever and the guests went nuts over it. I never tasted it and there was never never any left. I mean it looked RAW because it was RAW and they attacked it as if it were the most scrumptious thing in the world. Oh and there is another dish strictly Armenian that I won't even tell you about. Talk about gross! Thank you for your reply and Happy Monday! :)

That's new to me tom. Thank you for the link. I have never heard of it so of course I would have asked you what it is. I  just call it salty. I mean savory is always salty. Is Soy Sauce umami? The sodium content of many of the foods is very high and sometimes very unpleasant as well with a fishy aftertaste. Seaweed does not call to me. Is that umami?  The broths are way salty. Are they umami too? Maybe my taste buds aren't developed enough to appreciate umami, I like the sound of the word though it begs to be played with. Whose you daddy? Whose umami? Thank you for your reply and Happy Monday! :)

I immediately associated it with my wife's pot roast.  I only read about umami within the last 6 months. I just checked the definition of savory online and it is not necessarily salty---it can be spicy alternately.

I like salty sour and bitter foods and it's nice if they are crunchy....I don't like overly sweet and sickly foods or any foods that are spicy or hot unless it tastes of mustard...:)
