    The doomsday clock represents a current assessment of the imminence of destructive forces and conditions that threaten our continued survival. 

    With this is mind, the legion of perils now facing our collective existence, from bad air to bad politics, have thus been calculated (by those who keep the ”clock”) as so immediate and dire, that the hypothetical time of our demise draws closer.     Remember the clock have the entire human period of civilization (some 3-5 thousand years) compressed to fit on a 24 hour clock. those 2 minutes represent several years.
