    Not really,  since "awful" used to be a positive word.  We see the meanings of words constantly changing,  even in our short lives...  So for a word born many years ago to not now make sense is kind of normal.

    Weylon? The Answerbag Weylon? Howdy! Very true. Remember long ago when "gay" meant happy and nothing else? I did not know "awful" was positive. I do know that when you say something is "awfully swell" that's a very good thing. So I gather "awful" has something to do with "awe" perhaps? Today's meaning is tomorrow's antiquated and arcanely extinct humerous laughable thingy. Used to be that "BAD" was bad but if you call someone a "BAD DUDE" you could mean he's da bomb! If you are up with it or down with it there is no difference in meaning. Thank you for your reply and Happy Sunday. If you are that Waylon long time no chat.
