D'ya like BULLET TRAINS? Ever ridden on one? Apparently China and Japan have LOTS of them and the US has not even ONE! Why?

Are bulletin trains good, bad or indifferent according to you? Useful useless neither?

In japan and France, they work. China doesn't have a lot of them, only between cities that have a lot of cross traffic.

In the US (and even more pointedly in Australia) the demand isn't there - distances are too great and the potential patronage too small. Japan has twice the population of California and is smaller than that state. Airplanes dominate the skies between the American cities that do have a significant amount of travel between them, at speeds that bullet trains can't match.

Oh. So our(The Americans and the Aussies) cultures don't lend themselves to it due to geography and way of life.  Thanks R for the specific info. Appreciate it!  :)
