Peanuts are not that loaded with nutrition.

I like to eat nuts that are organic and freshly ground.  All nuts, not just peanuts.

No, the brand we use has a small amount of sugar and an emulsifier. Also a bit of salt.

You mean as opposed to peanut butter made with packing peanuts?

Of course - I wouldn't have it any other way.

I know...I used to mess with my students when I would eat one from a shipping box. They taste like popcorn. They make them that way so you can safely dispose of them in a sink with cold water.

I prefer Peter Pan Honey Roasted.

I think the 100% peanut butters are a pain. The oil separates and you have to stir it before using.

  • I agree ... too much work and it doesn't really taste that great either.

If your peanut butter is separating, you aren't using it up fast enough.  I never have that problem because I don't buy the giant economy size.

There are peanut butters that do not have the stabilizer in them to prevent the oil separation. But yes, if it is a normal processed peanut butter oil preparation is a sign it is going bad.

They are sold as Natural peanut butter. The oil is on the top when you buy it.

You are so right, My 2, about one thing.  The oil. This grinding, in order to be pristine, should be done at home and fresh.

    Talk about a HASSLE.  LOL

Oil is the most delicate of chemicals and rancid equals poison.  It is best to eat a fresh, raw, organic nut or just buy them fresh, raw and whole and buy a grinder.  They are not that expensive and cost less than cancer treatments.

And also, the minute heat touches oil, it becomes rancid as well. This post was edited by WM BARR . =ABSOLUTE TRASH at February 21, 2019 10:02 AM MST

The only time I had a problem with oil separation with Skippy was when I bought a jar that was too big and I couldn't use it up fast enough.

Right cause that is regular peanut butter. "Natural" peanut butter will be purchased the oil will be on top and after stirring at home it will separate again.

As opposed to eating a nice, smooth, creamy, loaded with sugar and additives, jar of Jiff?

    I'd rather stir.

I hate Jiff. It tastes like they use rotten peanuts.

Peter Pan Honey roasted is the best...sugar additives and all.

I am not on a big tear regarding nut butter.  I think that the jar kind of any major brand has little usable nutrition but at least they are not harming and killing animals to do it.

  • I use a brand that claims to be "natural" but it still has a bit of extra junk in it.  Not as much as the bigger name brands though.

    Yep.
We make our own fresh using the grinder at the health-food shop in town.

The ingredient list is:  roasted peanuts, salt

The same thing for the almond butter I buy.  Roasted almonds and salt.

In the USA the labeling requirements have changed.  Now foods with any other ingredient cannot be called peanut butter.....it would be peanut butter spread.  That is as it should be.
