"English people are the most spied upon people in the world". Per a long-time Answermug/Answerbag friend who is a Brit. Why do "they" spy?

There are cameras everywhere taking photos. In the US they're used to catch you making driving errors so they can send you tickets in the mail. I THINK. I don't know for sure. Have any of you EVER received a ticket in the mail based on being caught on camera doing 'the wrong thing"?

    Yes, twice.  Once for going through a red light inadvertently and once for making a right turn on red without stopping for five seconds first.  The red light violation came about because I was going somewhere I had never been before and I was looking for the place I needed to be and completely neglected to see that the light was red.  The turn issue was different - the intersection was very obviously clear for me to make the turn and I didn't realize I had to stop for five seconds even when I could see that there was absolutely no traffic coming.
