SOUND depends on hearers to hear it. If no animal is around there is no sound. Correct?

And IF there are animals who are around but they are DEAF there is still no sound. Or is there?

Of course there is.   That would be like saying there is no food unless anyone is around to eat it.

Sound is mechanical vibrations in a medium, such as air or water. It's still there whether or not there is a listener.

See E this is a PERFECT example of my intellectual limitations. I think there is no "sound" if a hearing being isn't there to hear it. Of course there are still vibrations. But sound REQUIRES a hearer to me. SIGH. I wish I were smarter. "The sensation produced by stimulation of the organs of HEARING by vibrations transmitted through the air or other medium". That is the first definition of sound in the dictionary. I'm stuck in a rut because "hearing" is an integral part of the meaning. See my problem?
