How can you KNOW the cause of death if you don't perform an autopsy? Actor Jan-Michael Vincent died of "CARDIAC ARREST". Doesn't everyone?

You die when your heart stops beating. That happens to EVERYONE WHO DIES. So cardiac arrest is always the final straw. No autopsy was performed on the 73-year-old actor. I wonder why?

I would imagine that if no suspicious circumstances surround a death at that age, an autopsy is not necessary.  Yes, we all die of cardiac arrest, but if something occurs that hastens that, an autopsy would be done to know why and whether it's natural causes or homicide.

I know less than zero about such things L so I don't know HOW you can tel that someone died of a massive heart attack with examining the heart. Are xrays sufficient to determine that? I think that particular actor lived a very fast life and I believe had a lot of problems with addictions. That can't have been good for his heart. Thank you for your reply! :)

I don't know x-rays can show a massive heart attack although an MRI or CT scan might.  No, additions are not good for the heart.

I wonder how often we need to even know the "cause of death".  Unless there is suspicion of foul play isn't it enough that they died?  Knowing will not bring them back and only thing it can do is make us feel guilty we did not steer them away from particular things contributing to their death.  Which in the end is their responsibility anyway.
