Discussion»Statements»Rosie's Corner» FULL DISCLOSURE. I think TEACHING is the noblest profession. Did any teacher impact your life dramatically? If so how?
The teachers that most impacted my life were the ones who taught steno, typing and bookkeeping. Of the three, my steno teacher was the most impactful. She never settled for second best. She is the reason I was offered a job in a law fir right out of high school. The experience I got in that job and the two after than set my law office career for my entire working life and has given me an opportunity to earn a better wage than I would have in most other fields.
I am so happy you had such a great experience with a teacher L! It sure would be nice if you could tell her but I expect she was older enough that she is no longer around. Maybe elsewhere in the somewhere out there she knows. Thank you for your reply! :)
She and I kept in touch for a long while after I graduated. One day, my letter was never answered. I sent her another note that also went unanswered and I suspected at that point that she had passed away. She was not married, had no children and maybe there was no other family or they just didn't bother to tell me. I still have fond memories of her even though we thought she was a real ogre when she was our teacher. :)
That is very nice to know L. That you were able to keep in touch with after graduation. Thank you for sharing that! It warms my heart. Teachers are entirely too often maligned. They make very good scapegoats to cover up the neglect that parents are guilty of when their kids are very young in their care. They can teach their kids how to read. How many do? They leave everything to the teacher. Here's the problem with that. By the time kids are 6 they are 80% of whom they will be. All that time WASTED when they are at their more absorbing time. Too late. Kids go to school and teacher is expected to work miracles with the kid. That angers me a lot. SIGH.
I know how you feel and I feel the same way. Four of my family members are teachers and they have some stories they can tell about how the kids behave. They do try their best to guide them to better behavior, but there's only so much they can do if the parents don't reinforce it at home.
I don't think any teachers have made an impact on my life but I can see our Daughter in law who is a public school teacher is making a positive impact on the kids in our community. When her students see her in town on the weekend they are always happy to see her even when she reminds them about their homework so she must be getting threw to them. Cheers!
