Discussion»Statements»Rosie's Corner» Forgive the forthcoming flowery but I AM A FOODIE! The taste of which food is the best gift you could give your tongue?
You do know you're killing me here m'dear, right? And you are lucky we are thousands of miles away. If we were neighbors guess who would invite herself and Jim over for dinner when that is being served? I can't get anything by you can I? Is chocolate caramel cheesecake your daughter's creation R? I have never heard of it before but my golly gee whiz it sure sounds SCRUMPTIOUS! I don't s'pose Maureen shares her recipes does she? Thank you for your reply R! :)
It's not just the recipe, it's the technique - Maureen was shown how. You'd have to come over for a visit.
As for the cheesecake, my daughter was taught by Maureen's elder sister (sadly no longer with us) and she like to experiment with flavourings - she's done coffee, mint, Baileys and a triple layered chocolate one (layers of dark, milk and white chocolate) - but my fave was the choc caramel one. Think of a Milky Way as a cheesecake and you might get the idea.
Oh m'dear you have no idea how much I wish I could just drop by and watch her in action. But we stopped flying a few years ago R. It's just too hard on us. Too much schlepping. So I guess I cannot envision how "technique" matters other than perhaps visually. I'm not gonna push for a blow-by-blow. Oh my gosh! A Milky Way CHEESECAKE? Oh my gosh. Well it's probably just as I well that I read about it R. I shall let my mind frolic about among/amidst all those flavors. I would have liked your sister-in-law. I like how she thought and what she thought about. I would have been an excellent student! Just sitting here I feel like I gained 10 lbs! I mean starting off with lasagna and ending with a Milky Way cheesecake? I dunno. Maybe for my last meal I'd try it. With some triple creme Brie too as an appetizer! Thank you for your reply. Ya know I don't think I have ever developed a technique. I'm going to have to think about it a bit :)
Well I like a lot of foods. Cauliflower, carrots, Macomber rutabagas, spinach, mustard greens, tatsoi, scallops, brown rice, whole wheat pasta, fried fish, tomato salsa with lots of hot peppers, bean tacos. Corn bread, eetch. To name but a few. Do not consider myself a "foodie" because I try to think of the effect of the food not just in terms of taste but in terms of its effect on my whole body and on my community and the world. If I just think in terms of taste then I will eat too much and put on weight! Especially at my age.
I'm partial to brie myself, especially with fruit and nuts as an after dinner dessert. Dark chocolate is my other passion, in almost any form. I draw the line at chocolate covered bacon, however. yuk
Benjamin Franklin once said: Hunger is the best pickle.
Deciphered it means that if you are hungry, it is the best appetizer of all for whatever is put in front of you.
That said, I have cravings. Depending on my craving, I can crave a great sandwich; something hot, a great soup, a great sweet. Oh lordy and I am not even hungry right now. So I would go for something healthy.
My last nice meal consisted of a homemade bean and rice and cheese taco. But I don't want another.
Let's just go with ITALIAN and pasta or pizza and that will cover just about all of it.
