Ever hear of the Algonquin Round Table? It started off as THE VICIOUS CIRCLE. It lasted from 1919-1929. Here we are 100 years later. And?

Well I dunno. You tell me.

It consisted of writers critics actors and wits. They engaged in wisecracks word play witticisms. There were orginal charter members and then a second tier of others who floated in and out.

We engage in wisecracks, word play witticism. We are comprised of charter members and others who float in and out from time to time. Our professions vary all over the place. So does what we talk about.

Maybe we is them 100 years later gussied up with computers and smart phones and smart  TV's but otherwise no different. Ya think?

I think "the vicious circle" was what they called themselves.  Because some of their wisecracks were rather merciless.  Algonquin was and I think still is a New York City hotel and the people met there for lunch and drinks because they enjoyed each other's company which was very amusing as they were all sharp people working in journalism or entertainment.  Robert Benchley and Dorothy Parker and the man who started The New Yorker and Alexander Woolcott.  But there were many of them and many became quite nationally known which of course fueled the romance that accrued to the group. Rather fast company intellectually. As well as in industriousness. Which I would say most of us on here are just regular people and cannot lay claim to such intellectual brilliance or such wit.  There have been books written and movies made about them but those were different time and not sure we would appreciate the same wit and humor today. Maybe some of it.
