There are multiple ways to get what you want when you what it. What works best for you? What else?

Assertiveness works well for me.  Knowing more about the subject than anyone else in the room is also useful---and that is actually relatively easy to achieve if one chooses to do so.

How assertive? Bully-level assertive or just confident and direct? Knowing more about a subject can facilitate/enable you to know how to attain it whereas those who know less don't. Do you order command demand insist or request? If what you want is not turned over when you want it do you become abusive belligerent hostile and attack? Is what you want always fair and logical and appropriate and timely? Do you make demands that are threatening? Is winning important to you? Enough that you would badger people enough to get what you want. I guess my problem is with the word Assertive. Assertive has overtones of aggressive, dogmatic. What's in a word? A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. Maybe not. Thank you for your reply tom! :)

I call bully-level assertive to be aggression, not assertive.  Knowing more allows one to quickly point out the typical errors that are made by people being exposed to new requirements that they don't immediately comprehend the reason for.

I did a lot of tutoring when I was younger, and I have the reputation of knowing what I am talking about.  That makes it fairly easy to convince people to accept what I suggest.

I do not always suggest that things be done a certain way.  If I see no advantage to something being one way versus another way, I will point out what I think are the benefits and disadvantages of each way and let others make the final decision.
