I expect real creativity occurs in solitude and not in a crowd. Does the creative mind work best alone or on a team? Why?

It all depends on the individual.

Some people are at their creative best when they're surrounded by other people.  Some are at their creative best when there's music playing in the background.   Some people require total solitude and/or silence to be at their creative best.  What one person sees as a distraction another might see as inspiration.   What's more, different kinds of creativity in a person may thrive in totally separate environments.  For example, I'm at my creative best with words when I'm in total solitude and utter silence.  Yet I'm at my creative cooking best only when I have music blaring (and total solitude). On the other hand, I've seen people who can spit out ideas like rain while being in a team environment and yet can't even think when alone.
It's possible that some people need external stimuli (auditory or visual) in order to help them focus.  Perhaps for some, stimuli (or lack thereof?) evokes strong memories that blocks out their thought processes.  Whatever "stepping stones" one needs to kick start their creative mind is unique to them.  No two minds think or process information alike.

So it's all over the board then?. Multiple methods are out there and available. I wonder if the methods you use choose you or you happened upon them? Discovered them in your meanderings? I can work in complete silence. I can also tune out my environment to the extent that I hear nothing despite whatever noise is out there. I remember in high school having radio music in the background as I did my homework in the kitchen on the kitchen table with the swinging door to it closed. The music helped me focus/concentrate. But it had to be just music. No singers or groups. That interferred bigly for me. Thank you for your thoughtful and informative reply Shuhak and Happy Sunday! :)

I discovered my methods by trial and error.  Meaning I've tried other ways but found them ineffectual.

Background music is akin to white noise.  For some, it serves to block out other sounds due to its frequency and amplitude (the reason some say to use a fan or other white noise to help sleep better).
