He could be really funny. Young Frankenstein is one of my favorites.
Wilder was one of my all-time favorite comedians. I'm sad that he died but, given the WAY he died, I'd have preferred he died much earlier and be spared the ravages of Alzheimer's.
I don't like the way he talked about Gilda Radner after she died. Very small of him.
He was hilarious in the 70's.

That scene is a scream. Loved, loved him in that movie.
I always had the impression he talked highly of her after she died. I know she sure thought the world of him. I remember reading a book about her after her tragic battle with ovarian cancer.

Very sorry to hear of his long struggle with blood cancer and Alzheimers.
Better for him to be finally free of that suffering.

Was not aware he was 83 or had Alzheimers. He certainly had a productive life,
made a lot of people laugh and brought joy into the world. A great legacy to the world.
I didn't see much of him but he and Richard Pryor were quite entertaining in Silver Streak and Stir Crazy. He was one of those celebrities not often in the news; that leads one to think that he was a good guy who avoided the regular celebrity scandal avenue.
I agree........almost an innocence. 
You realize, of course, that a classic like Blazing Saddles could never be made today. Think of the trigger warnings you'd have to add for the trailer alone!

He was wonderful as Willy Wonka and in The Producers, and in many others.
I did not know he died until I saw this question. I looked it up.
He had Alzheimer's, so he was probably out of the public eye while the disease slowly took away who he was. At 83, and probably 70-some good years before his decline, life owed him nothing. His last on-screen performance was in 2003. He was promoting his novel in 2007.
He still can be seen from his prime in such movies as Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and Young Frankenstein.
He had loves in his life, including Gilda Radner who died young of Ovarian Cancer, before living out his days with Karen Boyer.
Overall he appears to have had a good life. We should all be so fortunate.
