Discussion»Statements»Rosie's Corner» Is there any way to "test" a thumb drive/flash drive to make sure it is virus-free BEFORE you use it? Or do just HOPE it is okay?
It's the same as any other computer drive ... you scan it with an anti-virus program. Hopefully, everybody has an anti-virus program running on their computer all the time ... and has scheduled regular full scans.
I wonder if public officials get free "military-grade" anti-virus software on their personal computers?
So I'm very ignorant here Walt. Where do you put it to scan it? If your computer has an anti-virus program (mine does) where would I stick it in and how would the anti-virus program know where to look? If those are stupid questions I remind you again I'm bigly ignorant. Thank you for you reply! :)

You just plug the thumb drive in to the USB slot, and run your anti-virus scan ... you can often tell the program you want to scan a specific drive, or you just let it scan the entire computer and it will automatically detect the "temporary drive".
