Horrifying words as heard on TV said by whomever. Unknown to me what political affiliation he is. Does it matter?

"If Bernie Sanders is the Dem candidate for president people will stay with the devil they know and vote for trump".

Agree/dis/why?

There are some platforms that Bernie Sanders has that I agree with and would like to see implemented - environment, voting rights, etc., and there are others that are just too far to the left for my taste.  I'm not in favor of taking money from those who work and giving it to those who won't.  Of course, that does not apply to children, the elderly and the disabled.  Having said that, if the choice is between Trump and Sanders, I'll vote for Sanders.

Everything I've read and heard says that he proposes taking more money from the extremely wealthy, not more $ from those of us who actually work. I've also not heard that he proposes 'giving' money to those who simply choose not to work; only those whose ability to work is impacted by being disabled, elderly, etc.

One of the big reasons I support Bernie is his intent to reform and create national healthcare. The "working poor" shouldn't be driven to bankruptcy in order to receive 'free' healthcare. Chances of surviving cancer or another life-threatening illness shouldn't be dependent on how much money you have.

Perhaps I'm conflating him with AOC and her desire to give a basic income to people whether or not they want to work.  My apologies.  We need to abolish welfare as we know it for those capable of working.  We can continue to provide for those who can't provide for themselves, but we should be saying to everyone else, you get a job and if what you earn is $100 and you need $150 to feed your family, we will give you the other $50.  They should not have to completely stop working in order to be eligible for welfare.  Basically, we should be supplementing their earnings with food stamps or other non-cash payments.

I definitely agree with you on the health care issue.  There was an 18 month period back in 2014-15 when I had so many medical bills that I would have been bankrupted if I had to pay out of pocket.  Fortunately, I had medical insurance through my employer.

I disagree. While it's impossible to know for sure, everything I've seen and read says that Bernie would have won in 2016, had he been the nominee.

I see no reason why he wouldn't beat Trump if he's actually given the chance. I've heard people talk negatively about his age, but he's only 14 months older than Biden. While Trump may be 5 years younger, he is clearly afflicted by some sort of dementia. Bernie is obviously physically and mentally more fit for office, despite his age.

Thank you for your reply SA and Happy Monday. Well m'dear we disagree. I don't want old running the country. I don't care whom it is. I want youngish and energetic. I think Bernie is very energetic but the energy is recycled not new. We've heard it before we've been there before. I dunno. Just what I think. If the choice is between him and Don of course I shall vote for Bernie. But I'd rather vote for younger like Kamala Harris. She is a California gal and was our Attorney General before she ran for and won a Senate seat. I think we could do far worse than a whip-smart accomplished African American WOMAN and will if we are not careful. I wish Bernie were smoother more polished less bombastic and less frenetic. I guess his style is a turnoff for me. Substance is more important than style of course. But delivery also matters. His delivery is left wanting for me personally. :) This post was edited by RosieG at April 11, 2019 8:09 PM MDT

    Happy almost Friday, Rosie!

It's so interesting to me that Bernie is so appealing to the youngest of voters. I know many 'millenials' who refused to vote for Hillary, they were so upset that he didn't get the nomination. I understand their frustration, but I really feel that their protest votes are a big part of why Donnie the Dumpster is in the oval office.

We'll see how it shakes out in another year or so. One thing we can agree on;  we'll both be casting a vote for whoever runs against the orange monster.  :)
