    just a trivia tidbit ... a male is "troll" ... a female is "trollop".

    The English noun "troll" in the standard sense of ugly dwarf or giant dates to 1610 and comes from the Old Norse word "troll" meaning giant or demon. The word evokes the trolls of Scandinavian folklore and children's tales: antisocial, quarrelsome and slow-witted creatures which make life difficult for travelers.


    EDIT:  btw - Seattle (WA) has a troll under the Fremont Bridge.  Thankfully, it has been turned to stone, and no longer bothers travelers.

    Not according to my Webster's dictionary Walt. I always thought a TROLLOP was a hoor, a slut, a prostitute, a a "working girl", roundheels, promiscuous, wanton, sleazy  cheap, easy. Guess what I just looked it up and my understanding is correct. So what is your source and is a troll a male slut hoor roundheels working boy? Troll refers to folks sleeping under bridges or something. My source is Webster's Unabridged Dictionary of the English Language. What's yours?  Thank you for your reply and Happy Tuesday! :)

    (I read several books in a series by Anthony -- the first one, I think, was called "A Spell for Chameleon." I remember reading maybe two more and then stopped for some reason. I remember liking them quite a bit, though.)
