I don't really hate Disney for it but in their movie version Disney really butchered and trivialized the original wonderful story by Hans Christian Anderson "The Little Mermaid." That story is no "Girl Gets Boy" love story. But that's what Disney made it in to, in my opinion.
But to Disney's credit -- in the movie Ursula, The Sea Witch, voiced by the wonderful Pat Carroll, ROCKS!! She's the only thing I liked about that movie.
