What are some reasons a person might struggle to commit to one job?

Have you ever worked with someone who disappeared from work one day, without a word, never to return? What's the most amount of time you've worked for one particular company?

It used to be very common for people to work their entire working lives for the same company.  That's when there really were relationships and loyalty.  People were paid well, had great retirement/pensions, great company-provided medical insurance, and promoting from within was always regarded the best choice.   Companies made a real investment in their employees and did not want to lose them.  Today it is all changed and I will say for the worse!  I retired early at the age of 51 with 30 years of service to the company.

I worked for the US Navy for 20 years and taught public schools for another. I loved both jobs but got tired.

Poor or dangerous working conditions.  Sociopathic management.  Both have led me to vanish...maybe we worked together.

  • I wish it was still like that. The constant stress of job loss hanging over me is killing me.

I hear that man, and I feel for you. Today people that actually work for a living are treated like paper towels. Just use them and then throw them away. It sucks, BIG time!

So do I, Mr. B.  I was so blessed to leave high school and go right to work for a great company with endless possibilities for upward movement.  I continued my education in the evenings.  The company paid college tuition too.   This is a good example of what I mean when I say progress is not good unless it moves in a good direction.  This country is more screwed up than I ever thought I would witness.  I hope you can get into a job without that stress.
