Long ago and far away we used to have values like truth honor justice. We used them as a compass to navigate in life. What happened?
There is no compass any longer and so we just go hither and yon like tumbleweeds or float wherever the waters take us. Will we ever get back again what we used to value or once destroyed is it gone forever?
They were, and are, wonderful ideals. Touchstones. Models. But to expect perfection all the time is to live in a dream world. Only God is perfect - all the rest of us must , as the saying used to go, pay cash. And. like virtue, they constitute their own reward and so are very personal choices. For all ideals, to be effective, must have practical foundations as well. Otherwise truth becomes but the fruit of cornering, browbeating, and threats, honor becomes only reciprocity, and justice becomes only vindictiveness.

That starry-eyed, rose-colored and truly myopic perspective overlooks these FACTS:
The "founding fathers" of this country found it fitting to legally consider black people to be property, akin to cattle.
Every single treaty ever initiated by the US government and presented to Native Americans was eventually broken by the US government .EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.
Women had to fight for decades to get the right to vote in this country. Prior to that, women were deemed less than men, less important than men, less intelligent than men, too emotional, and therefore did not "deserve" sufferage.
The US federal government, especially through its former Department of War, current Department of Defense, Department of State, Department of Commerce, Department of the Treasury, and Central Intelligence Agency only to make a few, has interfered in other countries' affairs for more than a century. Nations' economies have been ruined, elections have been rigged, people have been assassinated, etc. Most of these actions were clandestine and remain hidden from public view.
Having truth, honor, and justice doesn't mean that such principles are properly applied from the moment we learn them. The primary law of our being is that we move from potency to act, seldom in a straight line, and not always accurately.
And of course, not everyone who makes public policy is enlightened sufficiently to help us progress; and we have seen things tend to come to a screeching halt when people like Trump are given power.
And how did you find out that, as you say, "Most of these actions were clandestine and remain hidden from public view?"---although I do agree that would be the nature of those actions.

What differences are there between injustices that occurred from 1776 to 1976 and the ones that occurred from 1977 to today? Donald Trump hasn't always existed, but evil has. Rosie's post belies truth, or merely ignores it so that a pretense can be made that a shift in morals and values suddenly took place on November 2016. You'll take note that she has absolutely no rebuttal to simple evidence that she's incorrect, but that's part for the course of a propagandist: merely publicize the half-truths, the gullible will fall for them, and it doesn't matter when they're proven otherwise.
