There are already benefits extended to Lawful Permanent Residents (green card holders) who serve successfully in the US Armed Forces and receive honorable discharges: their paths to US citizenship are quickened from the usual 5-year wait by 3 years if and when they file the application. (Not every legal immigrant chooses to file.)
