People are way weird. They hire people of color to clean their homes/cook their meals/raise their kids but they won't socialize with them?

What more intimate access can they be given than what people give them? Yet they would never dream of inviting the same people who live in their home and take care of them to the Country Club or a party. I expect that is normal for some of you. I think it's very peculiar and the parameters of sane activity are being stretched bigly.

Let's talk facts.  What really happened. Growing up my parents had sometimes a maid and always a cook.  Usually black people who also helped care for us as they were there when my mother was not or was incapacitated. Anything I learned about cooking growing up I learned from our cooks.  They belonged to a country club all of whose members were white and mostly Protestant.  However they did indeed invite the families of our employees to the house for dinner as that was considered proper etiquette.  As well as other people from the  town they had an interest in, a few of whom were black. And were times they entertained black families at their table at our country club. Otherwise they were not close to any black people but they stayed within their social circle.  I didn't  go to school with any black kids until I was a teenager (the 1970s).  You can rail all you like about injustice and prejudice and "racism" but that is the way things were.  My parents were Kennedy Democrats and would not have considered themselves any kind of "racists".
