  • Not much anymore. More importantly is data mining and downloading apps. Apps are the new "advertising".

Collectively, advertising has a massive affect on people.  Individually, one can train themselves to ignore the ads, though there are also subtle advertisements found within movies, TV shows and even books.

The same methods are used by government, media and special interests to direct people's beliefs and distract them from more important issues.

    I'd say it's quite powerful.

Remarkably powerful. If you can get the company name in a slogan, and put it to music, and pay a very famous star to sing it, people will listen to the commercial all the way thru. And they will have it embedded in their minds for a very long time. Take this Brad Paisley...AHEM...I mean...Nationwide song as an example.

  • Very. The human mind can associate with anything. The color red for instance can make you hungry. That's why McDonalds does it and a whole lot of other fast food places have bright colors. There is also various slogans that get deeply embedded in your mind, programming so that you associate certain objects, words, phrases with it.
